Your tongue can tell you many important things about your health by its color. Discoloration, odd patterns, or bumps could suggest the existence of a problem. White patches may appear which can be caused by an oral thrush infection, alcohol, and tobacco use. Fever and dehydration may also give rise to whitish coloring. Other colors provide additional information. 

Pink:  indicates normal sound health.

Red:  may suggest the presence of a fever or hormonal imbalance.

Reddish purple: may indicate the possibility of inflammation or infection somewhere in your body.

Pale pink:  may mean that you are suffering from a vitamin deficiency or possible weak immune system function.

Tongue Coating

The texture and physical appearance of the skin on your tongue can also give important clues about your oral and overall health.

Thick coating:  indicates poor intestinal or digestive function.

Yellow coating:  is another indication of possible infection in your body.

Thick white coating:  indicates poor circulation to your limbs or the possibility of a yeast infection.
