Summer is nearly upon us, which means vacation travel and a loosening of schedules across the board. It’s the perfect time for a break and the reminder that bacteria that cause gum disease, tooth decay, and other oral health problems never take a vacation. Whether you are traveling across the world or just taking it easy at home, keep your mouth and teeth healthy this season by following these summer oral care tips.
Pack
Safeguard your oral health by keeping as much of it under your control as possible. Be sure to have an oral hygiene travel case for carrying essentials like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss. Throw in a mini mouthwash if you like.
Ventilation
Make sure you travel case is breathable so that water and moisture are able to evaporate. This will prevent the growth of mold and other bacteria inside it and on your toothbrush. Go one step more and make sure your toothbrush is completely dry before sticking back in its case.
No Sharing
Be sure to use your own toothbrush. Pack an extra one. Sharing toothbrushes spreads bacteria, which can lead to infections and tooth decay.
Wash Hands
A great summer oral care tip, or anytime overall healthcare tip, is to always make sure you wash your hands frequently. Wash your hands before you brush your teeth. You never know what kinds of germs may be present and the last thing you need is to put them in your mouth.
Sugarless Gum
One last summer oral care tip is make sure to keep sugarless gum on hand. Chew it after having a meal, especially if you can’t find time to brush and floss right away. It will freshen your breath and stimulate a flow of saliva that will help wash away food debris, keeping your teeth healthier and cleaner
